On Monday, officials from WarHorse Gaming and its partner, Ho-Chunk Inc., celebrated the grand opening of phase two of the casino floor. The expansion has more than doubled the number of slot machines, increasing from approximately 400 to a staggering 830. Moreover, for the first time since its opening, WarHorse Casino Lincoln introduced live dealer table games, which now includes popular games such as blackjack, roulette, and mini-baccarat.

Lance Morgan, CEO of WarHorse, emphasized that the second phase of development not only brings new gaming options but also expands the restaurant seating within the facility. According to Lynne McNally, CEO of the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (NHBPA), this introduction of table games aligns with the vision of creating a Las Vegas-style gambling atmosphere. The emphasis on table games is expected to significantly impact the casino’s bottom line, providing an experience that has been long awaited by patrons.
McNally noted, “A lot of people, when they think of Las Vegas-style gambling, they think of table games. We’ve been open for two years with only enough room for slot machines, but we now have 10 table games.” This shift towards a more diverse gaming experience positions WarHorse Lincoln as a leader in the local gaming landscape.

In Nebraska, gross gaming revenue (GGR) from racetrack casinos is taxed at 20%, with the majority directed to the Nebraska Property Tax Credit Fund.
Despite these delays, the completion of phase two marks significant progress in the development of WarHorse Casino Lincoln, which also serves as an extension of the racetrack grandstand at the site, now known as Legacy Downs. As of September, WarHorse Lincoln had amassed a GGR of approximately $41.3 million alone, contributing to a combined total of $54.9 million for the two WarHorse casinos, thereby controlling about 58% of the Nebraska casino market. This growing dominance could expand even further should WarHorse decide to build a third casino in South Sioux City.
