Customs of ATK Collaborate to Tackle Gambling Irregularities – Telegrafi – MW gaming 888

In recent developments within Kosovo’s regulatory sector, the Directorate of Customs (Dogana) and the Tax Administration of Kosovo (TAK) have undertaken significant measures to address issues related to gambling operations in the country. A pivotal meeting between key officials from both agencies underscores a concerted effort to enforce legal compliance in the gambling industry, thereby protecting the interests of the public and the integrity of the law.

Key Meeting on Gambling Regulation

At the heart of this initiative was a meeting held in Prishtina, where the Director General of Customs, Lulzim Rafuna, welcomed his counterpart from TAK, Behxhet Haliti, along with colleagues from both agencies. The primary agenda focused on the implementation of gambling laws and the coordination of joint activities aimed at ensuring compliance with these regulations. Discussions also delved into recommendations put forth by the Committee on Budget and Finance, emphasizing the need for an actionable plan that would benefit both organizations and enhance regulatory effectiveness.

Customs Enforcement Activities

Director Lulzim Rafuna highlighted the ongoing efforts of Kosovo Customs in combating illegal gambling practices. He noted the functional aspect of coordinated activities that target informal gambling operations, which have been a persistent issue in the region. An impressive outcome of these efforts has been the confiscation of over 1,200 gambling devices due to tax violations. Working alongside the judiciary, Kosovo Customs has initiated enforcement procedures against those found to be operating outside the legal framework.

TAK’s Proactive Measures

TAK, represented by Director Behxhet Haliti, is not lagging behind in this regulatory battle. The agency has embarked on a rigorous action plan designed to monitor and regulate gambling activities closely. A crucial aspect of this plan is the prohibition of gambling premises located near educational facilities, historical religious institutions, and municipal properties. This strategy ensures that gambling activities adhere to the legal stipulations outlined in Law 04/L-080 and the respective AI No. 03/2013.

TAK has been proactive with direct engagement, having conducted around 943 visits to gambling businesses. These visits include observational assessments, compliance checks, and general oversight aimed at ensuring adherence to legal standards. The rigorous enforcement has resulted in the closure of 39 gambling points, with plans for further closures in the immediate future.

Compliance and Accountability

The Tax Administration has also emphasized the importance of compliance among gambling entities. In a recent media notice, TAK called on all stakeholders within the gambling industry to strictly adhere to legal requirements. The agency has made it clear that any violations will not be tolerated and will result in stringent legal actions, which could include punitive measures leading to the shutdown of operations and the revocation of licenses for non-compliant businesses.

Sustainable Cooperation and Future Plans

Both the Directorate of Customs and TAK are committed to deepening their cooperation, focusing on the gradual unification of certain units within their organizations. This partnership aims to enhance the effectiveness of their joint operational activities, particularly in combating smuggling and reducing fiscal evasion across the gambling sector. By leveraging their combined expertise and resources, both agencies strive to achieve their overarching objectives of ensuring a regulated and fair gambling environment within Kosovo.

Conclusion

As Kosovo moves forward, the collaboration between the Directorate of Customs and the Tax Administration represents a robust approach to regulating the gambling sector. With both agencies actively engaged in monitoring and enforcing compliance, the initiatives set forth during their recent meeting illustrate a clear commitment to lawful practices. This united effort not only protects the public interest but also holds operators accountable, paving the way for a more transparent and responsible gambling landscape in the country.
